CLOUD STORAGE: What is it?

If you're still unsure of just what it is, that's okay! It's a bizarre concept, but no less incredible. 

The easiest way to say it is:

 A BUNCH OF INTERCONNECTED COMPUTER HARD DRIVES THAT SIMULTANEOUSLY DISTRIBUTE & STORE INFORMATION AS WELL AS BACK UP (COPY) OTHER HARD DRIVES

Think of like this: You own a library with a thousand books, and you can't afford to lose ANY of them! What if you could bind every book so that it would contain a small duplicate portion of every book in your library? Then imagine if you kept each book in its own vault in a different part of the world? If any one book was damaged, you could reprint it using the duplicated portions.

    Now instead of books, think of massive super-computers that communicate with near instantaneous speed. 

    Each one of these "Servers" constantly sends & receives information, while also backing up information from the storage drives of every other server.

Even though tiny pieces of my photos are stored all over the world, my login information is the only way to access them. 

So far, this is the most sophisticated "device" our species has built to preserve our information, which is why I have entrusted my family's images to the cloud instead of a single hard-drive in a single location that could be destroyed or stolen.
